These #games thrive on escapism and relaxation, offering players a rewarding way to pass the time. What if these experiences evolved to give players a world to escape with equity and power that transforms their time into meaningful value?
The Next Step: Equity and Power!
Casual #puzzlegames are ripe for innovation, by introducing systems where players build equity in the world—something tangible that contributes to ownership, power, and progress on both. While narrative and builder tie-ins are excellent, they miss a deeper layer that ties progress to “power” in a way that fundamentally enhances the #UX.
For example:
🏗️💪 Imagine a #mergegame or #match3 #mobilegame where every successful goal met contributes to resources, building and/or character vectors that enhance a player’s abilities and success. A farming mechanic where crops grown increase solving power, a city-building layer where structures unlock solving mechanics or boosts, or solving puzzles could level up characters with unique abilities; and vice versa.
What This Means for #F2P Monetization?
Such systems could allow new #monetization strategies:
💰‼️ Loss Aversion: If players risk losing progress or resources they’ve invested in their equity, they may be more motivated to engage with monetization mechanics to protect their gains.
💵💪 Power Progression Incentives: Players might pay for boosters, upgrades, or (premium) content tied to their sense of in-game power and progress, driving high #LTV.
💸📈 Dynamic Reward Systems: Rewarding consistent engagement through compounding equity-building systems can wildly increase #KPIs.
#Distribution and Onboarding—No Problem!
Both Merge and Match-3 games already have solid pipelines for #useracquisition and onboarding. Introducing depth through equity and power would likely enhance these systems. Hybrid casual games are also leading the way with onboarding strategies to depth, proving that casual players can be driven depth. 📈🚀
Why Now?
As hybrid casual continues to inspire and this is more blue ocean thinking, #casual #puzzle games have a solid opportunity to push boundaries. By leveraging systems that combine the accessibility of #casualgames with the depth of investable progression mechanics, the next generation of puzzle games could set new benchmarks in #engagement and #revenue.
With solid execution, this could redefine casual puzzles, turning them into experiences where players not only escape but thrive, strategize, and build legacy.
