The Elder Scrolls Castles ๐ฐ by Microsoftlaunched on 10th of September. It is doing around $70K a day in overall revenue and 40K downloads a day currently. It has some bold iterations on the genre by combining 2 different games into one ๐ ๐.
I am talking about the the mashup of Fallout Shelter gameplay with Reigns, the rogue lite card game that literally plays like tinder. As seen on the image, you play in the usual 2D mode, where you build your castle. On top of it your king works as the decision maker, where you select different options in moral or resource dilemmas. Most of these will affect either the happiness of your workers or even whole factions of workers. Spoiler: Angry workers will assassinate their king โ ๏ธ happened to me already ๐ .
On top of this loop there is the PvE saga levels, resource production puzzle and of course gearing and expanding your population of workers through marriages and children. Every day is counted as a year and all the characters get older. The baby to Adult cycle is 16 years therefore it takes 16 days ๐ฑ to get a new worker, which is horribly high compared to different games from the genre. Of course you can pay to skip this with Hard currency ๐.
This “God game” genre (the closest we had to Dungeon Keeper ๐ ) is mostly dominated on mobile by Hustle Castle or Fallout Shelter. Interestingly for a major PC IP, it has rewarded videos, with which you can speed up production or refresh resource puzzle orders. It seems it will follow the usual path of mobile games with PC IP, that are just let to slowly wither away, without much needed live-ops support.
