How to Evaluate Your Game Ideas?

How to Evaluate Your Game Ideas? Here are some critical questions you need to ask:1. Market Size: • Is your genre growing or declining? • Are new developers entering the niche, or is it saturated? • How could future trends and technology impact your genre?2. Competitive Analysis: • Who are your competitors, and what made them successful? • Why did similar games fail? • What makes your game stand out?3. Know Your Audience: • Who is your audience, and what do they value (e.g., story, competition)? • What are people saying about similar games on platforms like Reddit, Steam, or App Store?4. 🎲 Balatro: The Indie Poker Deckbuilder Taking Over Mobile & PC!🃏Originally published by Playstack and developed by Localthunk, Balatro has become one of 2024's breakout indie hits. Launched on Steam in February at $14.99, this poker-deckbuilding game has already sold over 2 million copies, with 44K+ reviews and a 97% positive rating. That’s $30 million in revenue! 💰 In September Balatro was released for $9.99 on mobile, and it’s already climbed to #2 on the mobile premium grossing chart, which is rare since it seems like the same 4-5 games have been there since 2015🌟ℹ️ In Balatro, you play simple poker hands to score points and progress to levels where higher points are required. It starts with simple rules and then begins to layer new layers of complexity to upgrade cards, which changes how many points you score. Balatro shows […]

A good case with AEM in Meta Ads

Last week we had a good case with AEM in Meta Ads (check my last posts to see the whole story!) so I applied the strategy with a different app but in this case... the results were not successful.I am working with a client who recently launched an app. This means that they have NO presence at all in UK, which is the country that we are targeting in this test. This is VERY evident if you go to Revenue Cat and check the data (see screenshot). As you can see, we had zero activity in the country until October 16th, when we decided to launch the first campaign in Meta using AEM and focusing on free trials. If you count the trials from 16th to 20th, you will see 90 free trials in RevenueCat while if you go to AEM, I […]

Devs can forget about marketing, as publishers handle it.

"Mobile developers can forget about marketing, as publishers will handle it!" This is one of the biggest myths in the post-IDFA mobile market. I’ve worked with nearly all the major publishers: Voodoo, Lion, Supersonic, Crazy Labs, Homa, and I can say for sure: If you want your game to reach the top, marketing must be a priority from day 1. Don't expect your great game to promote itself. And don’t assume the publisher will care for everything without you. Not because there’s something wrong with publishers. But because standing out in today’s overcrowded mobile UA is 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙡𝙮 hard. Here’s what you need to consider: • How will you grab the player's attention? • How will your product align with those ads? • Can you outbid your competitors' advertising budget? • How will you test multiple ad hypotheses every month? • […]

What Is Cozy Gaming? 🎀

Cozy games are a relatively new game genre/type. They help players to relax. There is no FOMO, time pressure, or violence inside this game.Typical for cozy games to have nature or farming topics. And beautiful visuals. The most famous cozy games are Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This photo was taken during the last Game Habitat Playtest Session in Malmö. Around half of the games I saw/played were cozy games! New trend? Especially among small indie or solo devs. The growth of its popularity means that people face lots of anxiety nowadays and they are looking for relaxation and calmness 😌Players say that cozy games can help with mental well-being.Do you play any cozy games? Have a favorite one? 🩷P.S. My favs are Unpacking and Monument Valley.
