$300K a Day: Rivergame’s Last Z Survival Shooter

Rivergame's Last Z Survival Shooter scaled to $300K a day in revenue. This time they used the Tap4Fun's Top Girl spin on the onboarding. How can they scale so many games so fast? 😵 The game is done again in their now signature template, of hypercasual runner/shooter during onboarding and then transitions to 4X. Except this time, we have AI-generated girls on top. The 4X engine ⚔️ that they are perfecting since releasing Top War in 2019 is just getting better and better with every next game they release. The game is now landscape instead of portrait, contrary to the rest of their portfolio, but it works even better because of the AI girls functionality they are focusing on. And let me tell you that they supercharged ⚡ what Top Girl did and turned it into their own AI-powered version […]

Supercell global launched Mo.co last week. And?

Supercell global launched Moco last week. Their Action RPG, that got out of its long periodic beta (since Oct. 2023). With around a week of data, there is $350K revenue and 2,5M downloads, which does not seem so super 😟. Let's look deeper into the game 🕵. This is as streamlined ARPG as it gets. You don't collect weapons from the ground and compare them in your inventory, you don't craft specific items, there are no skill trees, there are no gear sockets or enchants, there is not even the armor 🛡️ part of the inventory. You just choose 3 active and passive skills + weapon, which determines your playstyle, and that's it. Later, you get 3 more stat-based elite rings. I think this streamlining process went a little bit too far, or as a veteran ARPG player, I am […]

Rivergame’s Portfolio: $7M A Day

Rivergame's portfolio is crossing 🤑 $7 million revenue a day this month! This Chinese Mobile games company, specializing in 4X titles is killing it. Not only do they have the #1 grossing game in the genre, but also top 4, top 6, top 11 & top 12 🤯 spots. How did they do it? 2 key tactics - templatization & marketing strategy. Each of their games is using their own signature 4X template, which they are perfecting after launching Top War in 2019. Similar to Habby's (Archero) setup. Each game they create, they just reuse the work in their next game as the template grows more robust, it doesn't matter if the current game fails. Since launching Last War in 2023 they scaled 3 more games in less than 2 years 😱! As you see nearly 30% of daily revenue […]

New Match-3: Block Genre?

Is Block 🟥 the new Match3? Block Blast by Hungry Studio continues to scale past 1,2 Million downloads a day 🤑 its the 11th most downloaded App on all of the stores and 2nd most downloaded game after Garena FF for last month. On the other side Color Block Jam by Rollic did $12 Mil. in IAP 💰 revenue last month. We have already covered Block Blast on two & a half gamers podcast in January, but since then it has aggressively grown its active users by nearly 40% 😱. And the giant market appeal of this core gameplay (which stems from Tetris) is starting to be very obvious. In June it should comfortably hit 500 Mil. lifetime downloads 🏆.Interestingly, the next game in the genre charts based on downloads is Color Block Jam, which is still heavily monetized by […]

Soft-launch Sonar #8 📡 is back with 12 brand new soft-launched games with no particular filter. There are games from a lot of big players in the market such as Metacore, Supercent, Supercell, Homa, Century Games, Spyke Games, tap4fun, MY.GAMES. Come check out what we caught this time 😎. Metacore is continuing the innovation in the merge genre, with level based merge boards, now with the 2nd game. New shots in the Match3 battlefield with MY.GAMES "Wizard" based game and Century Games's farming game. They are really pushing hard into casual, this is the 8th or 9th game as we lost count now 😅. On the other and Spyke Games is again surfing the trend, trying to do an IAP driven Block Blast game. Homa is iterating on Tripledot Studios's Nut Sort. Supercell announced a new "Boat game" 🚢, seems […]

Elemental system is a key system for PvE RPGs

Warning ☢️ Heavy Game Design post ahead 😁 Elemental/ Faction system is a key system for PvE RPGs, yet a lot of games struggle with building it properly, which usually leads to broken progression & game economy. How does it work, and what are the most common mistakes that designers do? This system can go from pretty straightforward to very complex as you see on the comparison in the images. But complexity doesn't equal better performance or revenue. The first two games that ever did $1 Billion 💰 in mobile revenue were Puzzle & Dragons and Monster Strike from Japan, which used exactly this baseline system of 3+2 elements, which was also adapted by Zynga's Empires & Puzzles. The secret sauce lies not only in your hero lineup but mainly within the dungeons & bosses 👹 that the game challenges […]

Match Villains by Good Job Games scaled to $60K a Day!

Match Villains by Good Job Games already scaled to $60K per day 🤑. Last week they raised $23M from Menlo Ventures & Akin (Arcadia Gaming Partners) so there is definitely potential and money for UA 😎 How is the game looking? Even though the game was soft launched in last year's April and started scaling at the start of this year, this is a veteran team founded in 2017. Despite starting as Hyper casual developer, it already scaled and sold Zen Match to Moon Active (for something between $100-150 Mil. 💰). Zen Match has done $130 Mil. in IAP lifetime revenue. This is where the basis for IAP puzzler expertise was gained from and in Match Villains this 100+ team just perfected it.The game is going directly after match3 heavyweights such as Dream Games's Royal Match 👑. The production quality […]

600K Downloads a Day: I am Cat & I am Security

The mobile games "I am Cat" and "I am Security" are each doing 600K downloads a day 🙀 topping the download charts. The plot twist is that both are originally VR games 🕶️! Lets look deeper into this crazy story 🕵 You can find both games on Steam for premium price developed by New Folder Games. Actually I am Security was released on Meta's Quest store in June, 2024. Fast forward to today, both games are now published by Estoty Vilnius Feb 15th and Feb 23rd on mobile stores, and adapted for mobile gameplay, which is the key to this success. You have the full joystick control scheme with abilities and other adjustments, so it is pretty seamless. There are even ability buttons for watching ads 😅 Both games are "life simulators". I am Security is iteration on Paper's please, […]

Low CPI Cheat Code: Any IPs, Any Ads

IP infringement taken to a new level ⚠️ Why bother with licensing if you just gender swap all of the top anime IP characters into oversexualized women? The mobile game Enigma of Sépia released last month did just that and already made $3M, still doing $80K a day 😅 I have seen a lot of blatant Pokémon and Anime rip-offs lately, probably because of the renewed success of Pokémon IP that TCG Pocket brought, but this one really is on top of it all. Even though the art is low cost they took great effort into putting all of this IP into "this state," and there is a lot of it. I found even Blizzard Entertainment's Genji from Overwatch there, who I couldn't even show here on LinkedIn for obvious reasons. 😅 How long can this thing exist on the […]

The Secret Behind Royal Match’s $4M a Day

Warning ☢️ Heavy Game Design post ahead 😁 Royal Match's 👑 event metagame system has become not only the golden standard for level based games, but its a must have driver for monetization 💸. All the top casual games use it such as Monopoly GO, Match Factory, All in Hole, HexaSort, etc. Why it is so exceptional? The beauty of this system is that it is not dependent on core gameplay. Usually, it needs just a level-based setup, but even Monopoly GO, which isn't level-based, uses it in an iterated form 🛠️. The main purpose of the system is to put incentives and time pressure towards playing the main core gameplay. This increases engagement time as surely you won't go away now if there are just 10 minutes ⏳ left in the event. It also reinforces playing the core and […]

All in Hole by Homa Scaled to $300K a Day

All in Hole by Homa scaled to $300K a day 🤑, which is 6x its revenue since we last did an episode on it in November. In the other corner of the ring Hole.io by Voodoo took notes, and it is currently doing 500K downloads a day 😲. Who is going to win the battle ⚔️ for this innovative core gameplay? All in Hole changed the original Hole.io gameplay to level-based progression with Royal Match style events metagame, turning the game into an IAP driven monster 🤩. There are boosters, level fail states, teams, battle pass, and some ads. We can see again here that Royal Match events metagame just works so well for literally any core gameplay that is done in a setup of a based puzzler. This is now a must-have feature set when doing these. I would […]

Tripledot is making $1.3M a Day!

Tripledot Studios is making around 1,3 million a day 🤑 in ad revenue within its portfolio, and it is the secret buyer 😲 of AppLovin gaming business, as we learned last week 💡. Why is the company so successful, and how big are they? Check out: $900M Deal: Tripledot Buys AppLovin’s Games As said, the key lies in ad revenue 💸, which is a little bit hard to spot with our usual industry tools, but as we have Felix on the team, the problem is solved 😎.The game that did put the company on the map is Woodoku, which is an ultra-casual Tetris like puzzler, which even though does currently just low, 30K daily downloads, still has a monster 1,3 Mil. DAU, with US playerbase being 15% of that. That's where the money is made 💰. Looking at last months […]
