Nunu.ai secured $6 million in funding to advance its AI agents, dubbed Unembodied Minds, designed for Game Testing and beyond. These AI agents can seamlessly control any virtual entity, testing hundreds of game levels while executing tasks across various environments.
However, this innovation sparks debate over the potential displacement of human game testers.
Beyond Gaming: AI Agents in the Real World
Nunu.ai envisions applications far beyond video games. As game engines evolve into hyper-realistic physics engines, their AI agents could eventually transition into real-world tasks. “Since our launch, multiple studios have deployed our AI agents for QA testing. We’re expanding beyond virtual spaces into real-world applications,” said cofounder Kyrill Hux.
The Investment and Industry Endorsement
The funding round, co-led by A16z Speedrun and Tirta Ventures with participation from Y Combinator, brings Nunu.ai’s total funding to $8 million. “Nunu.ai’s AI agents redefine automation,” said Ben Feder, managing partner at Tirta Ventures and former CEO of Take-Two Interactive.
Game Testing at an Unprecedented Scale
With blockbuster games like GTA 6 reportedly costing over $2 billion, testing complexity has skyrocketed. Traditionally, studios rely on costly, time-consuming manual QA or brittle automation scripts that require constant maintenance. Nunu.ai offers an alternative: AI agents that execute natural language commands, dramatically improving efficiency.
In a demo, an AI agent completed the Hogwarts Legacy tutorial with simple verbal instructions. “Our goal is to 10x QA engineers’ productivity by automating tedious tasks, freeing them for higher-value testing,” said cofounder Nicolas Muntwyler.
From Virtual to Reality
Nunu.ai has already experimented with porting its AI agents onto real-world robots. In one test, the AI successfully retrieved a Coca-Cola bottle and checked a fridge for bananas. While game testing remains the primary focus, the company sees massive potential in robotics and beyond.
Founded by Kyrill Hux, Jan Schnyder, and Nicolas Muntwyler—who met at ETH Zurich in 2017—Nunu.ai is redefining AI-driven solutions. As gaming tech continues to evolve, the company’s AI agents are poised to bridge the gap between virtual and real-world automation.
